SOMETHING ON MY MIND
This series of abstract paintings on polyester, traces the idea of the misunderstood, where uncomfortable silences experienced in conversations are misinterpreted or “Lost in Translation". We sometimes. doublethink conversations and engage our inner voice in a mental commentary of questioning and answering, reflecting on feelings that run parallel with our external reality. In these works Grace uses different surfaces; X Ray film together with canvas, acrylic paint and mixed media to explore a sense of tension and feelings of anxiety.
These works show a diversity of painted patterns that layer ribbons and squirreling of lines, together with irregular painted shapes of opaque colours that sit and shift offering the viewer a visual journey that mimics the frenetic thought process that can transpire in verbal communications. Diverse opposites placed together intertwine in these abstract paintings to create a tension that overflows to the viewer and traces the uncomfortable feeling of being lost in translation as opposed to the clear thinking, understood calm state of mind.
